My Experience
The academy provided quality instruction and many of the instructors were knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely invested in developing future deputies. The academic portion was well organized, and I found the scenario-based training to be valuable. Throughout my time in the academy, I felt I was progressing and received positive feedback on my performance. My experience changed after an injury sustained during a defensive tactics training exercise. The injury prevented me from continuing training and ultimately ended my time in the academy. While I understand that law enforcement training is physically demanding, I was disappointed with how my situation was handled and how quickly my academy journey came to an end. Despite the outcome, I respect many of the instructors and the effort they put into preparing recruits for the profession. I would encourage future applicants to understand the physical demands of the academy and to ask questions about injury policies, recovery procedures, and what happens if a training injury occurs.
